Y2K PREPAREDNESS ACTIVITIES
INVENTORY COMPLETION DATE: 12/31/98
Our first step was to conduct an inventory of micro-processor controlled
devices that are critical and non-critical to the delivery of power to our customers.
Definitions:
Non-critical – Equipment or software systems that will not affect our ability to provide power to our customers.
Critical – Equipment or software systems that will affect our ability to provide power to our customers.
ASSESSMENT – COMPLETION DATE: 03/31/99
The second step is to assess the severity of the Year 2000 problem for the Cooperative to provide continuous service during transition periods and to maintain communication with the members. We have contacted vendors for compliance information on specific critical inventoried items, asking for compliance statements. All vendor letters received will be filed in a special file cabinet in an organized manor.
TESTING/REMEDIATE – COMPLETION DATE: 6/30/99
The third step is for FCEC to perform FCEC’s own testing. At this point, we have tested all of our personal computers and replaced all units that were not year 2000 compliant. All other inventoried devices both critical and non-critical will be tested by the end of the second quarter in 1999.
Y2K READY – COMPLETION DATE: 6/30/99
FCEC’s intentions are to be Y2K ready no later than June 99.
STAFFING FOR KEY DATES
All Fannin County Electric Coop employees have been scheduled to be in the office for the year 2000 rollover. Key personnel will be working to verify all equipment and checking for processing accuracy on our computer systems.
PROBLEM IDENTIFICATION TRAINING
All employees and supervisors will be trained on identifying and handling problems that may occur in their areas of responsibility. This will be an ongoing process throughout 1999.
WORK-AROUND ALTERNATIVES
Our electrical system has no embedded chip devices that control or can alter the delivery of power to our customers. All of our switches and control devices are manually operated. Servicemen and personnel dealing with our electrical system will be on call for critical key dates.
If all of our personal computers were to fail, we could still function using dumb terminals that we have in storage upstairs.
SUPPLIER COMMUNICATIONS
FCEC uses several methods of communication for servicemen including, telephone, mobile radio, cellular phones, and pagers. We also keep a list of similar methods for our vendors.
CUSTOMER NOTIFICATION
FCEC will be informing customers and all interested on FCEC’s standing in regards to Year 2000 readiness via our monthly newsletters as well as on FCEC’s web-page.
